The ice is finally melting, and the Spring Fishing season is getting started.
We’ve been fishing the Traverse Bays the past couple of weeks. The Lake Trout and Whitefish are really starting to kick in.
Fishing the steep secondary banks 130’ to 150’ deep is good while Jigging SS squirrels and Swedish pimples. Very slow trolling, cowbells and spin glows are also working.
The Lake Trout should start moving shallow in the next couple of weeks.

Labor day weekend presented us with fantastic weather, and the Salmon on a feeding frenzy.
Fishing out of Glen Arbor is above average. Many limit catches 2, 3, and 4th year fish are being caught and the fish are ranging 3 to 20 lbs.
The Manitou Islands are holding good schools of bait with Kings and Coho’s.
King Fish Fly combinations are working well, wonder bread spoons and J-plugs are hot. Fish are being caught 90 to 120 ft down, over water 120 to 250 ft deep.
Sleeping Bear Bay is holding good bunches of Alewives, with large Kings working the steep banks early in the morning and at sunset.
We will have good fishing all the way through September.
Good fishing
Captain Bill WinowieckiIn Glen Arbor fishing is very good. Large kings with a mix of 2 and 3 year old fish.
The Manitou Islands are holding good schools of Salmon. We have good bunches of Alewives keeping these fish in the area.
Near shore the Big King’s are moving in. These fish really are tearing up the tackle. We broke one fish pole and busted off 3 flies yesterday. There are many fish in the 15 to 20 lb range. The biggest we took last week was 24 lbs.

Sleeping Bear Bay is packed full of cold water. J plugs on Lead Core are working well. King Fisher fly combinations and wonder bread or any white spoons have been hot. With all this cold water you only need to fish the top 50’ of water.
The Watta Bite Charter Fishing boat took first place in the Glen Lake Salmon tournament on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Congratulations to Dave Garvin, Kris and Ryan Bailey, who booked a charter to fish this tournament with the Watta Bite Charter Fishing boat.

Fishing out of Glen Arbor has been Great !!!
Very large Kings are being caught and lost!
The Manitou Islands are holding good schools of Salmon.
Yesterday we had a 12 fish limit with 7 fish over 15 lbs. The largest was 22 lbs. These fish are very feisty and hard on the tackle. We broke off 3 fish, and straightened hooks on many others.
Good catches are being caught. Not always limits, because it takes time to fight these fish.
The most productive methods have been King fisher fly combinations, blue and green flashers with glow flies, chilly – willy spoons have been good. Temp has come up some, right around 80 ft. We’ve been fishing 80 to 100 ft down over 100 to 200 ft of water.
The weather looks good for the weekend. Watch out for logs and branches.
I caught another branch on a downrigger this week. Please be careful.
What a difference a week can make. Glen Arbor has really turned on.
Good catches of large kings are being caught. Many fish are in the 15 to 20 lb range.
The Manitou Islands have been especially hot.
The most productive methods have been King Fisher Fly combinations. The Blue and Green flashers the blue glow flies.
Temp has been deep. We’ve been going down 110 to 160 ft on the cables, over 180 to 250 ft of water.
The weather looks great, so these fish should have around for a while.
We still have logs and boards floating around, due to all of the flooding in Wisconsin and Southern Michigan. Please be careful out there.
Good Fishing
